Diabetes - Hypoglycemia

Diabetes

Adult onset diabetes, often referred to as non-insulin dependent diabetes (NIDD) or Type II diabetes, is the most common type of diabetes.

It is caused primarily by high insulin resistance that keeps glucose (blood sugar) from entering the cell, rather than by too little insulin. Whereas in diabetes mellitus, the type found more commonly in children, there is insufficient secretion of insulin by the pancreas.

People who are hypoglycemic have a greater tendency to develop adult onset diabetes because their chronic over-consumption of sugar and refined carbohydrates creates greater insulin resistance in the cells in order to keep too much glucose from flooding in.

Hypoglycemia also places greater demands on the adrenal glands which can lead to Adrenal Fatigue (see section on Hypoglycemia). For this reason, some level of Adrenal Fatigue often precedes adult onset diabetes.

Both forms of diabetes stress the adrenal glands and can, in turn, fatigue them. For detailed information about how to support your adrenals read Dr. Wilson's book Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome and check out Programs for Adrenal Recovery on this website.
