Milk Allergens
Always read the ingredients on a product label to be sure they don't contain a substance you are allergic or sensitive to. When a complete list of ingredients is not available, you can use the information here as a general guide.
The following is a list of products that may contain milk:
- These items or anything made with them: milk that is liquid, dried, powdered, condensed or evaporated: milk that is whole, 2%, 1%, skim or lactase treated; acidophilus milk, buttermilk, whey
- Breaded meat, fish or poultry
- Butter
- Casein or caseinate (milk protein)
- Cheese
- Cream
- Custard
- Egg replacers
- Half-and-half
- High calcium cereals
- Hot dogs
- Ice cream
- Ice milk
- Instant cocoa preparations
- Lactalbumen
- Lactoglobulin
- Lactose (milk sugar)
- Luncheon meats
- Margarines (some)
- Mashed, creamed, au gratin or scalloped dishes
- "Nondairy" substitutes such as Coffee-Mate, Prem, and Cool Whip contain casein or caseinate
- Omelets
- Scrambled eggs
- Sherbet
- Sour cream
- Soy cheese (if it contains casein)
- Whey
- Whipped topping
- Whipped cream
- Yogurt
