Milk Allergens

Always read the ingredients on a product label to be sure they don't contain a substance you are allergic or sensitive to. When a complete list of ingredients is not available, you can use the information here as a general guide.

The following is a list of products that may contain milk:

  • These items or anything made with them: milk that is liquid, dried, powdered, condensed or evaporated: milk that is whole, 2%, 1%, skim or lactase treated; acidophilus milk, buttermilk, whey
  • Breaded meat, fish or poultry
  • Butter
  • Casein or caseinate (milk protein)
  • Cheese
  • Cream
  • Custard
  • Egg replacers
  • Half-and-half
  • High calcium cereals
  • Hot dogs
  • Ice cream
  • Ice milk
  • Instant cocoa preparations
  • Lactalbumen
  • Lactoglobulin
  • Lactose (milk sugar)
  • Luncheon meats
  • Margarines (some)
  • Mashed, creamed, au gratin or scalloped dishes
  • "Nondairy" substitutes such as Coffee-Mate, Prem, and Cool Whip contain casein or caseinate
  • Omelets
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Sherbet
  • Sour cream
  • Soy cheese (if it contains casein)
  • Whey
  • Whipped topping
  • Whipped cream
  • Yogurt
